Catania
Go for the cocktails and the small plates. Catania gets the Girard Avenue crowd right around 5, when people are done shopping and need somewhere to sit without the noise of the bigger spots. Good drinks, good snacks, reasonable prices for La Jolla. Seat yourself at the bar if the tables are full.
Order a negroni or whatever their house cocktail is. Get the charcuterie. One round, stay for two.

4.9★Lunch · Local favorite
Order the carne asada burrito and eat it standing at the counter. El Pueblo is what happens when you stop looking for the Instagram spot and find the place locals actually eat. Pearl Street foot traffic is half tourists walking past, half people who know.
Lifeguard La Jolla Cove
4.8★Walk · Heavy hitter
Get there before 9 AM when the cove is still yours. The water is clearest in summer. Seals hang in the shallows. Skip midday crowds entirely. The cove is the same at 3 PM with half the bodies in the sand.
La Jolla Cove
4.8★Walk · Heavy hitter
Arrive at 7:30 when the cove is still quiet and the water is flat glass. The cliffs frame the beach like someone already framed it for you. By 9 the tour groups start. Swim or just watch the seals. Both work.
