Tahiti Felix's Master Tattoo and Museum
Go early, before the Gaslamp tourists find it. Felix's been tattooing here since the seventies. The museum upstairs is old San Diego in flash sheets and photographs. Watch him work if you're quiet about it. Most people walk right past Fifth Ave without looking up.

Order the Old Fashioned. The bartender knows the name, not because it's clever, but because the show is the drink. Gaslamp Quarter crowds mean 9pm is quieter than 7. Come after the tourists eat.
Monzu Fresh Pasta

Order the pappardelle or whatever's fresh that day. Tables fill fast around 7, so come at 5:45 or after 8:30. The pasta sits on the counter in the window. Watch them roll it while you wait for a table. That's half the dinner.
Freddy’s Chophouse

Order the dry-aged ribeye, medium rare. The bar has a view of Fourth Avenue street life. It's a steakhouse doing steakhouse things, and it does them well. Reservation required, and they book out weeks ahead. Come hungry.
