Walk past the water fountain plaza, past the families on the grass. Head to the upper part where the bay opens up and the joggers thin out. The benches here have actual views, not crowds.

Get there when the ship opens. The flight deck is the main draw, the hangar deck your chance to breathe without crowds. Leave by 2 or watch tour groups triple. Parking is terrible. Take the trolley from the Gaslamp.

Get a Nebbiolo or something off the Italian list and sit at the bar. The owner knows what he's doing with the program. India Street gets quieter after 6. You won't fight for a stool here like you do everywhere else in Little Italy.

Bring a drink to a rooftop showing old films in Little Italy. The crowd is half locals who know the vibe, half tourists who stumbled onto something better than a bar. Come early enough to claim a lounge chair. Stay for the whole thing.
